PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ATR Corporation currently has a vacancy for an entry-level technical writer/editor. This position is located at the Columbia, Maryland headquarters. The incumbent will process engineering and scientific reports, manuals, and other publications for ATR clients and staff, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Plan writing and editing projects.
  • Collect, organize and assimilate source information for publication.
  • Write original manuscripts based on source documents and interviews with scientists and engineers.
  • Edit draft manuscripts furnished by Government engineers and scientists for grammar and usage, as well as consistency and completeness of technical content.
  • Prepare documents according to Navy format guidelines and processes.
  • Coordinate the publication review process, printing and distribution.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS or BA in liberal arts, science, or engineering is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a writer/editor in electrical/electronic technology is a plus.
  • The successful candidate will coordinate work with Government engineers and scientists.
  • Job experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus.
SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong oral and writing communication skills;
  • An aptitude for mechanics, electronics, and computer science;
  • Functional skill in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat and various vector and bit-map graphic programs;
  • Ability to cooperate and function effectively with clients and co-workers.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

    • Strong understanding and application of technical theories and concepts of electromagnetics
    • Strong skills in data acquisition and instrumentation in radars, signal processing and analysis
    • Expertise in microwave radar system design, system integration, operation, and maintenance
    • Experiences in development of Radio Frequency (RF) systems building blocks, performance prediction, circuit design and general knowledge of other related disciplines
    • Experience in Test and Evaluation (T&E) program and ability to generate and present program summaries

    Specific to Radar Systems:

    • Familiar with calibrated Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurement, phase coherent test radar systems in frequency bands up to 100 GHz.
    • Knowledgeable in various system RF modulation architectures such as frequency stepping, linear chirp under the pulse and Inverse Fast Fourier Transforms (IFFT's)
    • Knowledgeable with major radar system components such as fast stepping synthesized frequency generator, pulsed solid state and traveling wave tube amplifier transmitter
    • Familiar with RF front end components such as microwave switches, attenuators, circulators wave guide and RF cables
    • Familiar with auxiliary telemetry systems for test article data such as roll, pitch, heading, location (GPS), speed and local weather
    • Familiar with transmission systems such as military UHF, FM and LOS radio systems with host systems aboard the military platform
    • Familiar with NTIA (DD 1494) process to obtain frequency authorization
